What links menus with nodes?

Hey guys,

If I create a node, and then a menu item pointing to that path, I notice that the menu item's settings don't appear when editing the node.

Is there a way to get this working? If not, does anyone know what part of the database is linking the menu item and the node when I create the menu item when I create the node?

A bit specific I know, but help would be greatly appreciated!
