swapping items
snagfreegrad - November 6, 2008 - 17:48
Hi,
I am new to drupal and I am trying to add a functionality that would allow users to exchange items, i.e. cds, books, etc. I have been looking at the ubercart marketplace to try and expand it for this capability. Any suggestions on how to do it or a better way to implement this functionality?
Thanks,
Charmaigne

You'll need to flesh out more of what you mean by swap items. Do you want to do this on a points basis? Will people confirm on the site that they've received their swap?
There is a whole lot of functionality implied in the phrase 'swapping items' so I probably wouldn't recommend it as a project for someone new to Drupal.

Jody Lynn: you sound like you're across the question and well-informed.
I want to allow people to swap plant materials (seeds) using a very informal type of exchange mechanism.
My key interest is in the ease/flexibility of listing a large number of plants that a person might be offering, and an interesting interface for locating the seeds.
The actual exchange can be quite simple since most of these people operate with high levels of trust and are on non-urgent timelines. They are hobbyists.
This is a different emphasis to something like eBay, as you can see. I have been wondering if the best conceptualisation is through a taxonomy-driven interface.
But are you aware of any contribs that might make a good starting point?
