Batch import module for File Framework

We're looking for a module to batch import files (pdfs, docs, etc) from a folder that already resides on the same server as Drupal , into File Framework which automatically creates a File node and bitstream for each file. We're looking for a similar functionality as Media Mover's harvest from a local directory.

There currently exists a Webdav method, but it's slow and unstable, plus the files are already on the server, so we would need to download them just to reupload them again - which is why we are seeking a custom script to accomplish this.

The suggestion on http://drupal.org/node/421146 - "I would suggest using http://drupal.org/project/drush to write a script which would loop trough your files on the server and create file nodes from them. "
