Hi, there,

I am setting up a Drupal site that I expect to get heavy traffic. Though I'm starting on a shared, I can see the need for moving to something more robust once traffic picks up.

However, I don't have much sysadmin experience, though I used to do shared hosting support for a big hosting company, and obvously I know html/ftp and the things you need to get around a hosting environment. So in order for a VPS transition to not only go well, but work at all, could someone describe what the basic setup functions that are necessary in order to have a working Drupal site?

Addon domains query

I am considering hosting a second Drupal site ( separate files and database ) within my hosting space provided by AN Hosting. I understand that I need to configure an addon domain within the control panel and then redirect my nameservers for the domain to point to AN Hosting's nameservers.

My question is can I test out the Addon domain concept WITHOUT redirecting the domain nameservers and impacting the current live version of the site ? My first thought would be to reconfigure my PC's DNS servers away from my ISP and straight to AN Hosting's nameservers. Do you think this would work ?

PHP memory limit is a problem

Hello there,

I started playing and working with drupal about 6 months ago. I am now getting to a point where I run into PHP memory limit limitations for most of my sites. I am hosted with hostpapa with a limit of 32M and it looks like most shared hosting is around 32M. Some of them offer 50M or 64M (hostgator). But is that even enough? I can't imagine how much memory some fancy sites require... I notice that when looking for hosting, the companies never mention their memory limit in their package info.
I started looking into vps or vds... Most of them seem to start with 256M of ram. Is the ram the same thing as php memory limit? vps.net starts at 256M for $20/month. It sounds like a good deal compared to others around $6-7/month for the memory limit mentioned above.
Anyone has experience with vps.net? They seem very flexible...

Basically I would like to find a solution for my growing business without having to change host all the time... And also be able to be clear with my clients...

Any advice appreciated!

Image Display with different Hosts?

I'm having trouble displaying images in a site on one host that work perfectly well in another site on a different host. On the site that is not working, only the alt text for the images is displaying (see links below).

The code I have in the page is identical - a simple 4x4 table lifted from Dreamweaver. I have looked for differences in the settings.php and .htaccess files but can't see anything significant. I've checked all the permissions for the enclosing folders and they all esm appropriate (755). I've even downloaded the images to verify that they are not corrupt. Where else can I look for possible causes of this problem?

(The Crucial Paradigm-hosted site has been working fine for many months. I have just recently started developing the second site hosted by Blue Host.)

MySQL error site crashed - SOS

We plan to provide memcache and NDB mysql table engine.

You pay for how many server instances you need to run plus bandwidth and storage.

Would you consider such a service, and what would you pay? Would included Wowza streaming be important?

Help with Bluehost - making the root directory the default Drupal URL

I'm hoping this one has an easy as pie solution, though I'm guessing it won't!

I did the "autoinstall" for Bluehost -- instead of installing the files in the root directory, it installed all the files in a /drupal folder.

I tried simply moving all the folders within the /drupal folder into the root directory, to no avail (which is kind of what I expected).

As of right now, I want the Drupal files to point to www.example.com instead of the current www.example.com/drupal -- I also can't enable Clean URLS (which may be a completely seperate issue) -- I'm guessing this is all set up work in the settings.php file or something along those lines.

Any help would be appreciated. I will restart and do a manual install instead of the Bluehost auto-install but I know that can be a lot of work and defeats the purpose of the auto-install.

Errors on all pages and then crash of server

I was just uploading a module (not yet activated) on my site www.forniture-alberghiere.net hosted on very cheap VPS of wwwversaweb.com when I go in all pages a mountain of errors, generally all to the same line, and after about 10-20 mnutes afte tell this to techical support all is disappeared totally again after about 3 hours. What is happened? Do you think that my files and db are lost or not?

I'm sorry for my bad english and strange question.

At this moment I'm makeing a personal website, the last 3 days I read a lot about Drupal and I will try with this CMS.
This is not the problem, the problem is where can I find a good and free host?

I will upload Drupal by FTP, because it's mine installation.
I will have a host where I can upload the package but where I have min. 500MB diskspace and 1GB bandwitch (or something like that).

Off course I need the typical requirements for Drupal (PHP, MySQL (2-3), ASP, HTML, CSS, CRON)

we are going to launch a social networking site where we hope to gain 5 million users. obviously there is a ramp up period, so immediately that kind of support is not necessary but we hope to be there fairly quickly.

can i get your recommendations on what kind of server hosting is recommended for:
1) 0 - 100K users?
2) 100 - 500K users?
3) 500K+ users?

keep in mind we will need to ramp up as the user base increases but dont want to shoot ourselves in the foot from the get-go.

Okay, without all the gruelling history about why I want to move to a VPS provider I'm putting this out here. Affordability, stablity and speed are the key factors. So far it's down to slicehost.com and linode.com with hotdrupal.com still in consideration. I don't want to go to an oversubscribed VPS and wind up paying more than I do or my current shared hosting plan and get the same response time from an oversubscribed virtual. Since I'm a sysadmin I'm not worried about having to install and set up my own server, but I really want to see how the various providers perform with real working drupal installations.

So, will some of you be kind enough to share some of your sites and hosts here? I know that's getting somewhat personal but I'd like to take some of them for a test drive just to see how the different hosts perform.

I know, it's a bit of an odd request, but thanks for those of you that will share and if you don't I'll understand.

I am new to the Drupal world, and website maintenance. I do have a technical background though....

I currently have a Weekly Calender on my site.... we are looking to replace the current calender page (leave the main redirect button as it is) with a iframe.
I have the iframe code that is needed to drop in place, but i need to know where and how to do this on the drupal menu.
I don't want to screw anything up.... but, don't feel i need to get our old programmer involved either.

I am basically looking to replace the webcontent with the code for the iframe.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
